IDEM honors Fishers as CLEAN community

The Town of Fishers is committed to being good stewards of the environment.

Here are a few of the projects the town is tackling to ensure tomorrow’s Fishers is as clean, healthy, and beautiful as it is today.
Worked with IDEM to earn CLEAN Community designation.
Developed a three year strategic plan for environmental initiatives.
Compiled data for all energy used by Town facilities over the last two years to identify how to cut back and conserve.
Is testing several environmentally friendly concepts at a Pilot “Idea House” at Fire Station 94. The effective and most useful lessons learned at the Idea House will be applied to all Town facilities.
Compiled data on current recycling within the organization with the goal of increasing and growing a culture of recycling and re-use.
Rolled out a pilot recycling program at Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve.
Implementing paperless claims process within town procedures to cut back on paper use.
Conducting research on native plant and tree use.
Participating in Tree City USA program.
Developing a community forest program.
Incorporating native low maintenance plants into Town’s streetscape plans.
Identifying and eliminating regulations that inadvertently prohibit green design and architecture.
Analyzing chemicals and fertilizers used by the Town and evaluating green alternatives to current fertilizer and chemical use.

All the efforts to make Fishers a greener, more sustainable community is the result of the hard work of town employees.
